I received a letter from Elder Zinn today and I know many of the family members have been wondering if he has written........I have NO access to my e-mail so the thought came as I was reading it to just post it on the blog. It is mainly family that read this blog so I figured I would be SAFE to send them this way and you will have access now! It is amazing to read his letters....
Being with Elder Grant Zinn and reading Elder Eric Zinns letters tell me it is an AMAZING experience! Happy reading. The first letter is the general letter and the second letter is to me but I had to "smile" at it so I thought you would find the same!
From Elder Eric Zinn:
Well, I made it! Things are going great! When we arrived in Fort Lauderdale Airport we were greeted by the Mission President and his wife. They are wonderful people. I really lucked out with my first area. I am serving in the Homestead South area and we live in a town house with two other Spanish speaking Elders. From what I have been told it is the nicest place to stay in the entire mission. Other than the Keys, (which only Spanish speaking Elders are sent to), I am the serving in the furthest southern point of the mission. There is a mixture of financial incomes in the area but for the most part it is pretty ‘ghetto’. Which is great because these are my kind of people. I love the area and we have meet all different types of people. I seem to be able to get along well with everyone and they seem to like me too.
I love finding and teaching. I wish we would do more of it. I think if missionaries had the same passion for finding and teaching, as they do for dinner appointments, the number of baptisms would double! It does take a lot out of you, and so we do need to pace ourselves, but I seem to have that “greenie fire” and I don’t want to put it out. I was looking at my white handbook and they give you a card in the MTC to place in it and it says, “This certifies that the bearer, Elder Eric Matthew Zinn, who is in full faith and fellowship with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is a duly ordained minister of the gospel and as such has authority to preach the principles of the gospel and to administer the ordinances thereof.
We invite all people to heed his message.”
Then below it has a signature from the Prophet Thomas S. Monson. It expires the 24th of August, 2010.
I cant imagine another time more important than now that we should be preaching the gospel. It expires! We can always talk with people about the Church and do missionary work on our own, but to be set apart is something else.
I appreciate all your thoughts and prayers and I hope you will continue with them. I need all the strength I can get to be effective. I love the work, I love the gospel. I hope to write back to everyone who has sent me a letter. I am slowly getting caught up.
All is well,
Elder Zinn
Mom,
Everthing is going well. I have to make this quick, but I talked with the mission president about the medicine. He said there are a lot of Walgreens around here and that we might be able to just sent the scripts that way. I didn’t mention about dr. kelty suggesting I find a doctor yet. It was late and I was the last one to be interviewed. I already bought a comforter. I needed it that day so don’t send Grant’s. We saw Quentin L. Cook at the MTC. That was great! I will tell you more about it later. Thanks for the packages. I will send some pictures home when I get the camera developed. I had to buy a disposable because my camera was dead. Not sure how they will turn out. I had dinner at the mission presidents home. That was bad. We had to make our own something, so I wasn’t sure what to put on this tortilla and it was nasty. Another member feed us chicken which I ate a little bit and it wasn’t that bad. And yesterday I had to eat a hamburger which I ate a little of that as well, but they were really thick so when I got to the center I had some trouble. Dinner appointments are common here. It is not because of my dislike in other foods, but because we spend so much time with them and we have to move our schedules all over the place to work around them. One day we didn’t make any appointments because we were not sure when a member was going to feed us. Well, I am learning a lot. Things are going great.
I still have not scratched the service. I love it down here. My companion is great. He knows his scriptures and the history of a lot of it. He teaches well and we get along.
I hope to tell you more about it soon.
Love,
Elder Zinn
